Good News Reflections:
Making scripture meaningful to your daily life
by Terry Modica
They ordered Peter and John not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. They replied, “It is impossible for us not to speak about what we have seen and heard.” (Acts 4:18,20)

If God thinks you can do it, then of course you can
Too many of us do too little in the mission of Christ. It’s not that we don’t care. We simply don’t realize that we are capable and called.
Think of a time when you were asked to do something and you turned it down because of insecurities. We often view ourselves as limited and flawed, while God sees us as capable (because He gave us the Holy Spirit) and chosen. Let’s imagine that your parish is looking for a volunteer to organize a Bible study for children. You do nothing because you fear that you might get in over your head. Your fears are stronger than your love for the children.
The truth is: Apart from God, we are nothing. We are inadequate. But in Him and through Him, we are important! We have been chosen to be His apostles!
When we fail to respond to apostolic opportunities, we underestimate the God who has offered us the opportunity to work for Him. We’ve forgotten that he’s powerful enough to help us accomplish any task that He asks of us. If God thinks we can do it, then of course we can do it, as long as we keep in touch with him and allow him to function through us.
When we were baptized and confirmed into the Holy Spirit, we were chosen by God to be a storehouse of His riches. We became a distribution point for God’s grace. The essence of our apostolic activity is to give to others what we have received from God.
Tips to help you succeed:
- Speak up in small moments — faith isn’t always loud; sometimes it’s a gentle word, a kind correction, or a quiet “I believe.”
- Don’t hide your faith — whether at work, school, or online, let your life reflect Christ without apology.
- Live it before you preach it — your actions should back up your beliefs even when words aren’t used.
- Trust God’s timeline — growth takes time; don’t beat yourself up for not being where you think you “should” be.
- Celebrate progress, not perfection — every small step in courage and conviction matters.
- Persevere when it’s uncomfortable — standing up for Christ won’t always feel rewarding in the moment, but it will refine you.
Remember to be patient with yourself. Sometimes God says “you can” but the process is long and hard. Your apostleship will make a difference through perseverance, spiritual growth, and trusting His timeline.
