Merry Christmas from Good News Ministries
A few years ago during the Christmas Season my family sat down to watch old videos of previous Christmas day celebrations. One of the more memorable moments was watching the video where my brother and I opened the original Sony PlayStation console. There was a lot of screaming, celebrating, dancing and merrymaking as we received the hottest gift on the planet from Santa.
Today, that PlayStation is long forgotten, its games are outdated and neither my little brother nor myself can remember whether we sold, misplaced or buried the console in a box marked “basement”; but watching that moment on film was a lot of fun for my family as we laughed at our original excitement and childhood exuberance. Our joy was a greater gift than the PlayStation.
It may sound cliche, but embracing the reason for the season, the birth of Jesus Christ – our Lord and Savior – will always give us a lasting Joy in our hearts. The presents we receive from family and friends, have a much shorter shelf life than the presence we give others at this time of year.
Personally, I have many memories of the epic Christmas parties my parents hosted in our home over the years, the laughs and joy of sharing in one another’s presence as we sang The Twelve Days of Christmas, ate and made merry. However, what I received in the gift exchange is long forgotten.
Why, because Jesus promises, “for where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them (Matthew 18:20).” So when we keep Christ in Christmas – he joins with us in our celebrations, and all that is not of Him eventually pass away in the refiners fire.
It is my prayer for you today that Christ is at the heart of your celebrations. Merry Christmas!
