Sweet Jesus, Saint Pachomius (292-348) was the earliest Christian who created a monastery to focus on the spiritual life, and his idea attracted many. He eventually organized seven thousand people into groups that followed his Rule — a Rule from which Saints Basil and Benedict later drew. What started him on this ascetical path was the outstanding kindness he had experienced from Christians while a soldier in the emperor’s army. I ask him to inspire me, through his intercession, and to inspire all Christians today to become so loving that people are drawn to us and are converted by the rules of our spirituality. Saint Pachomius, pray for us. Amen.
Quote for Today
Saint Isaiah the Prophet (8th Century B.C.)
Feast day May 9
Truly, the Lord is waiting that He may have mercy on you, and therefore shall He be exalted sparing you: because the Lord is the God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!”
