June 3 – Saint Charles Lwanga and Companions

Saint-Charles-Lwanga-and-Companions.jpg

listenDear Jesus, Saint Charles Lwanga and his companions were the first twenty-two black martyrs of Uganda, Africa (martyred on June 3, 1886).  Many of them had been baptized only a short time before risking their lives in faithfulness to You.  I ask them to pray for an increase in my loyalty to You, my Savior.  Inspire me to live the Christian Faith no matter what obstacles confront me nor who opposes me.  Though it’s tempting to be satisfied with a comfortable prayer life, going to church on Sundays, and doing little more than that, help me to be willing to take risks for Your kingdom, because I love You so deeply.  Saint Charles Lwanga and companions, pray for me.  Amen.

Quote for Today

Venerable Fulton Sheen (1895-1979)

quote

If I were not a Catholic, and were looking for the true Church in the world today, I would look for the one Church which did not get along well with the world; in other words, I would look for the Church which the world hated.”
