October 19 – Saint Isaac Jogues

Saint Isaac Jogues

listenDivine Savior, Saint Isaac Jogues, a French missionary, ministered to native Americans in Quebec. His evangelization efforts were successful, but he wanted to convert the whole Huron nation so he offered himself in prayer as a sacrifice. His party was attacked by Mohawks who enslaved and tortured them. Eventually he escaped. Despite the dangers, he returned to the missions. His only regret was his inability to consecrate the Eucharist because of his mutilated hands. He was killed by the Mohawks when they suffered a crop failure and an epidemic. Holy Spirit, help us to be so enthusiastic about the Faith that we too are willing to make sacrifices so that others may know Jesus. Saint Isaac Jogues, pray for us. Amen.

Quotes for Today

Saint Peter of Alcantara (1499-1562)
Feast day October 19

quoteHe does much in the sight of God who does his best, be it ever so little.”
