May 23 – Saint John Baptist Dei Rossi

listenO Father, Saint John Baptist Dei Rossi was so aware of Your love, he felt he could never do enough for You.  Though an epileptic, this priest ministered to the sick and the poor, housed the homeless with his own money, and befriended laborers in the marketplace to teach them and prepare them for the Sacraments.  He became a popular speaker for parish missions, and a confessor in great demand.  I ask him to pray for me and the others in my life who have physical ailments or other problems that could interfere with serving You.  O Lord, help us to remember that our weaknesses keep us humble.  Saint John Baptist Dei Rossi, pray for us.  Amen.

Quotes for Today

Saint John Baptist Rossi (1698-1764)

quoteI would rather pass for a rude man without any manners, than to seem to have a shadow of attachment to things of earth.”

quoteOne of the chief means of our salvation is perseverance in mental prayer. It is so powerful a one that I know of no other way of attaining to perfection. If we are proficient in that exercise we need never fear; but if we neglect it, let us dread the consequences, for we run a great risk of losing our souls.”
