July 6 – Saint Maria Goretti

Saint-Maria-Goretti.jpg

Compassionate Savior, Saint Maria Goretti (1890-1902) was a young girl when a farmhand tried to rape her.  As she warned him that he was sinning, he stabbed her repeatedly.  Before she died, she forgave him.  Later, while in jail for his crime, the perpetrator had a vision in which Maria led him to conversion.  She is the patron saint of teen girls, rape victims, and chastity.  I ask her to pray for the teenagers I know, that they save sex for marriage, and for those who have been sexually abused, that they find the strength and faith to forgive their attackers.  Lord Jesus, heal their wounds.  Saint Maria Goretti, pray for us.  Amen.
