Ralph’s secret favorite cause

Ralph Modica, Fr. Joseph Kimu, and retreatantsMy late husband Ralph had a big heart for seminarians and priests — especially those in Africa because who had great enthusiasm for doing their ministry and who couldn’t afford the tech equipment that they needed.

As a techy who worked in computer companies, Ralph most loved fulfilling the techy dreams of underprivileged seminarians and priests. One time we were giving a retreat and our friend from Malawi, Mons. Joseph Kimu, found a generous donor who flew him to the US to attend our retreat. Father Joseph gives many retreats in Malawi, and he was fascinated by the bluetooth speaker we used for playing music. (No, he was not fascinated to the point of distraction — he liked our talks too, LOL.)

So Ralph gave him our speaker at the end of the retreat.

One time a seminarian from another African country spent the summer in our parish. Ralph bought him a laptop computer to take home along with some supplemental equipment. It was an easy decision for him no matter what our own finances were like. That was my darling!

Now I’d like to continue Ralph’s passion for donating tech equipment to seminarians in Africa by getting more people involved. It will soon be time to rebuild GNM funds with our annual mid-year appeal. How about we start a little early in honor of Ralph’s June 20th birthday? And once we secure GNM’s future, we’ll begin a special fund for African seminarians in Ralph’s name.

Let’s make it happen! Go to today.
