The Promises of the Rosary
October is the month of the Rosary, a powerful devotion of our Catholic Faith. Saints have heralded the practice of reciting it for centuries and the blessed mother herself has encouraged all believers to pray it faithfully for peace in our hearts, homes and world in apparitions from Lourdes, Fatima, LaSalette and beyond.
Because of the countless graces and miracles that have been associated with the recitation of the Rosary, we should make a special effort to weave it into our prayer life, especially during the month of October. If it hasn’t been part of your daily prayer life, I encourage you to reflect upon the 15 promises of the Rosary given to St. Dominic by the Blessed Mother when she first encouraged the devotion in 1208.
- Special protection and great graces: Those who recite the rosary devoutly receive Mary’s special protection and very great graces.
- Signal graces for perseverance: Those who persevere in reciting the rosary will receive special graces during their lives.
- Armor against hell: The rosary is a powerful armor against hell; it destroys vice, lessens sin, and defeats heresies.
- Flourishing of virtue: It makes virtue and good works flourish, obtaining God’s mercy and lifting hearts from worldly vanities to the desire for eternal things.
- Safety from perishing: The soul that recommends itself to Mary through the rosary shall not perish.
- Protection from misfortune and unprovided death: Those who recite it devoutly while meditating on the mysteries will not be conquered by misfortune or die an unprovided (unprepared) death.
- Church sacraments at death: Those truly devoted to the rosary will not die without receiving the sacraments of the Church.
- Divine light and grace: Faithful reciters will have God’s light and the plenitude of His graces during life and at death, sharing in the merits of the blessed.
- Prompt delivery from purgatory: Mary promises to deliver souls devoted to the rosary promptly from purgatory.
- High heavenly glory: Faithful children of the rosary will merit a high degree of glory in heaven.
- Obtaining requests: You will obtain all that you ask of Mary through the recitation of the rosary.
- Aid for propagators: Those who propagate (spread devotion to) the holy rosary will be aided by Mary in all their necessities.
- Celestial intercessors: Advocates of the rosary will have the entire celestial court as their intercessors during life and at the hour of death.
- Spiritual kinship with Christ: All who recite the rosary are Mary’s children and the brothers and sisters of Jesus Christ.
- Sign of predestination: Devotion to the rosary is a special sign of predestination (assurance of salvation).
This list of promises is so beautiful, and because the countless witnesses of miracles both great and small that have been attributed to the Rosary throughout history, we can be confident that by reciting the Rosary we will experience the fruits of these promises in our own lives. This October is a great time to recommit ourselves to the recitation of Rosary.
In closing, I have a request. Pray a Rosary for Good News Ministries this week. Pray for our staff and their families, our board of directors and our benefactors and that through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary we may continue to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the world. In return, I promise to pray one for you!
May these words of Pope St. John Paul II uplift and encourage us as we intercede for one another: “I look to all of you, brothers and sisters of every state of life, to you, Christian families, to you, the sick and elderly, and to you, young people: confidently take up the Rosary once again. Rediscover the Rosary in the light of Scripture, in harmony with the Liturgy, and in the context of your daily lives (Apostolic Letter ROSARIUM VIRGINIS MARIAE).”
May God continue to bless you and your families!

Join our annual Holy Rosary Campaign and post a comment telling us who you are praying the Rosary for. Read what others post and pray for their intentions too. We are a community of the Faithful! There is great power in community prayer.

When Life Falls Apart, Can You Trust God?
In this deeply personal conversation with Terry Modica, poet Monica Chuda shares how violence in her marriage led her into a deeper relationship with Jesus. Spiritual direction helped her discern difficult decisions. The Rosary and her devotion to Mary became central to her prayer life.
She also shares the lesson she continues to learn: Sometimes discerning God’s will begins by letting go of our own plans and praying, “Lord Jesus, I trust in You, take care of everything.”
If you’re facing a difficult situation, this episode of Footsteps to Heaven may give you a new way to look at your circumstances.
