A Prayer of Sorrow for the Blessed Mother

Sorrow for the Blessed Mother

Offer up this prayer in reparation for the sins of the whole Church.

Prayers: Sorrow for the Blessed Mother - Bernini's pieta in St. John Lateran BasillicaO Blessed Mother!
What have we done?
We have nailed your Son into the Cross.
We have not loved those
that the Father has given us to love.
We are blind,
We are fools,
We are controlled by the pains of our wounds
instead of being guided by love.
We have inflicted the pains of our wounds
onto others and thus
onto your Son.

O Blessed Mother!
What have we done?
We have nailed your Son into the Cross.
We have let our feelings
of fear and self-protection
become our god
in place of your Son.
We have let our demons
of addictions and worldliness
become our lord
in place of your Son.

O Blessed Mother!
What have we done?
We have nailed your Son into the Cross.
We have let sin divide us
from the friends the Father has given us.
We have heard our own voices
and believed they were God’s,
We have heard our own desires
and believed they were God’s,
Because
We have not been willing
to travel the risky road of love,
We have not been willing
to carry the heavy cross of love.
We have preferred
to nail your Son into the Cross.

O Blessed Mother,
Pray for us!
Without your help,
Without your prayers,
We are lost,
We are surely lost!
We are powerless,
We are hopeless!
O Blessed Mother,
Pray for us!
