January 19 – Saint Marguerite Bourgeous

Saint-Marguerite-Bourgeous

O Holy Spirit, Saint Marguerite Bourgeous (1620-1700) gave away her inheritance to family members and departed for Canada, where she founded the Congregation of Notre Dame.  She helped people survive when food was scarce, opened a vocational school, and taught young people how to run a home and farm.  Holy Spirit, I give to You my interest in serving Your Kingdom. Help me not to be so attached to my possessions, my lifestyle, and my career that I fail to help those in need.  If Jesus calls me to change direction and travel a new path, help me trust Him enough to follow Him anywhere.  Saint Marguerite, pray for me.  Amen.

Quote for Today

Saint Joseph Sebastian Pelzer (1842-1924)
Feast day January 19

quoteGod Himself mercifully directed my steps. I can only ascribe this to myself insofar that I prayed and worked so as not to bury the talents given me by God but rather to use all of them in the service of God.”
