May 13 – Saint Andrew Hubert Fournet
Beloved Jesus, Saint Andrew Hubert Fournet (1752-1834) was a priest who held onto the worldliness, pettiness and superior attitudes of his childhood. His parishioners disapproved, but he did not experience full conversion until a rejected beggar criticized him. The comment made him realize that his life did not match the Gospel he preached. I ask him to pray for priests today—and others in ministry—who have the same need for awakening. Send people into their lives who will stir their consciences. Make them aware, O God, of how attached to the world they have been, and give them a holy desire to become like You. Saint Andrew Hubert Fournet, pray for us. Amen.
Quotes for Today
Blessed Julian of Norwich (1342-1416)
Feast day May 13
He said not: you shall not be troubled, you shall not be tempted, you shall not be distressed. But he said: You shall not be overcome.”
We ought to blame ourselves, but in God is no blame. In God is no rage, in God is no anger, in God there is only peace, only love. God condemns no one. We condemn ourselves, to the extent that we separate ourselves from him.”
God is closer to us than our own soul, for God is the foundation on which the soul stands. Our soul sits in God and in true rest, and our soul stands in God in sure strength, and our soul is naturally rooted in God in endless love.”
The prayer above is from Terry Modica’s book Daily Prayers with the Saints.
