March 5 – Saint John Joseph of the Cross
O Divine Lord, the holiness of Saint John Joseph of the Cross (1654-1739) revealed itself in the gifts of prophecy, healing, ecstasies, levitating in prayer, and bi-location. Because of his reputation, his superiors put him in charge of establishing a new friary even before he was ordained. In awe of this responsibility, he humbly joined the labor crew and worked hard. I give to You my desire to be holy. Do not let me seek holiness for the sake of outstanding gifts, but help me to imitate Saint John Joseph’s example of service, cheerfully working hard to complete whatever responsibilities are assigned to me. Saint John Joseph of the Cross, pray for me. Amen.

Even though knowledge is true, it is still not firmly established if unaccompanied by works. For everything is established by being put into practice.”
The mercy of God is hidden in sufferings not of our choice; and if we accept such sufferings patiently, they bring us to repentance and deliver us from everlasting punishment.”
